Voksen skole is a public primary school (barneskole) located in the Vestre Aker district of Oslo, Norway. Established in 1958, the school was built on the former grounds of the Voksen farm to alleviate overcrowding at the nearby Huseby school. For several decades, it was one of the largest primary schools in Norway, reaching a peak enrollment of approximately 800 students. However, its size was significantly reduced in 2006 following the opening of Bogstad skole, which took over a portion of its student body. Today, the school serves around 500 to 560 pupils and is known for having one of the largest outdoor school areas in Oslo, providing an average of 44 square meters of space per student, including gardens, playgrounds, and a football field.
The school is characterized by its commitment to several core educational areas, including a strong anti-bullying program (Connect), international cooperation through the Comenius program, and a focus on literacy and ICT skills. A unique historical feature of the campus is “Søndre Jarbakken,” a traditional farmhouse from the 18th century that was moved to the school grounds in 1971. This building serves as a school museum and is used for teaching and meetings, symbolizing the link between the modern institution and the area’s agricultural past. Additionally, the school shares a marching band, Voksen skoles musikkorps, with Bogstad skole, maintaining a strong local cultural presence.
