Telenor ASA is a major Norwegian telecommunications company, headquartered at Fornebu near Oslo. It was originally established in 1855 under the name Telegrafverket, later renamed Televerket, before becoming Telenor in 1995. Today it is majority-state owned (with about 54 % ownership by the Norwegian government) and operates under the umbrella of Telenor Group. Telenor offers a wide range of services — mobile telephony, fixed-line telephony, broadband/internet, TV (via cable, satellite and fiber), IPTV and other telecommunications services — and has a presence both in Norway and internationally. Over the decades the company expanded beyond Norway to become a global telecom player, particularly in Asia and across several markets, serving millions of customers worldwide. Through its long history, Telenor has evolved from a national telegraph provider to a modern, diversified telecom operator.
