National Library

The National Library of Norway (Nasjonalbiblioteket) is the primary repository for the nation's cultural heritage and intellectual output, operating from two locations: the historic headquarters in Oslo and a high-tech facility in Mo i Rana. Established as an independent institution in 1989 to take over duties previously held by the University Library of Oslo, its core mission is to collect, preserve, and provide access to all published content in Norway, including books, newspapers, films, and music. The library is a global leader in digital preservation, having launched an ambitious project to digitize its entire collection to ensure long-term public access. Its main building in Oslo, a renovated landmark from 1913, serves as a cultural hub featuring a restored fountain, a specialized bookstore, and various exhibitions that showcase the depth of Norwegian history and literature.
