Originally opened in 1898 as the terminus for the Holmenkoll Line, it has evolved from a simple suburban station into the city's second-busiest transit point, handling approximately 30 million boardings and disembarkations annually. The station is located directly behind the iconic "Majorstuhuset" and has recently undergone significant modernization to straighten its curved platforms and improve safety and accessibility for its 70,000 daily users. Architecturally, the station has seen several iterations, from the original 1916 building designed by Erik Glosimodt to the current functionalist integration with Majorstuhuset from 1930. As a massive multi-modal hub, it connects the metro network with several major tram and bus lines. Looking ahead, the station's importance is set to grow further with the opening of the Fornebu Line in 2029, which will integrate into the existing infrastructure near Majorstuen to handle an expected increase to 90,000 daily passengers.
