Victoria Terrasse

Victoria Terrasse is a historic building complex in central Oslo, Norway that now houses the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It was originally constructed between 1884 and 1890 as an upscale apartment complex designed by architect Henrik Thrap-Meyer with assistants, and even housed playwright Henrik Ibsen for a period. From 1913 it was taken over by the Norwegian government and used for police and political offices. During the German occupation in World War II, the Sicherheitspolizei and Sicherheitsdienst used it as their Oslo headquarters and interrogation center, and it became associated with torture and abuse. Allied efforts to destroy the building in air raids in 1942 and 1944 missed the complex and instead hit civilian targets
