Ormøya is a small island located in the inner Oslofjord, connected to the mainland by a short bridge near the district of Bekkelaget in Oslo. Despite its proximity to the city, Ormøya has a distinct coastal village atmosphere, characterized by narrow roads, traditional wooden houses, and lush gardens. Historically, the island was used for farming and fishing, but in the late 19th and early 20th centuries it developed into a popular residential and recreational area for Oslo’s upper and middle classes. Today, Ormøya is primarily a quiet residential community, but it retains public access to several natural areas and swimming spots. The island is also home to Ormøya Church, a charming wooden chapel built in 1893, which remains an architectural and cultural landmark. Surrounded by clear waters and with beautiful views toward Malmøya and the Oslofjord, Ormøya offers a peaceful environment that blends the tranquility of nature with easy access to the city. Its mix of historical homes, green spaces, and seaside charm makes it one of Oslo’s most picturesque and desirable coastal neighborhoods.
